The SOUTHWEST ECHOES concert presents a unique blend of southwest China minority music composed by master composer Mr. Cheng-Long Zhou of the Shanghai, who will be visiting Vancouver for the very first time. This major retrospective piece of an important Chinese composer for Chinese traditional instrument orchestra includes nine orchestral works, for solo, soli and ensemble. It will be a unique opportunity to explore contemporary Chinese music. All the compositions are Canadian premieres, chosen to please our favorite music lovers.Accompanying Mr. Zhou to Vancouver are two Hulusi ( double stemmed bamboo flute) soloists : Ms. Huan-Yu Yang and Rong-Mei Chen from Yunnan Province of China. They will perform traditional Hulusi instruments solos especially composed for them by Mr. Zhou and accompanied here by the over fifty-piece BC Chinese Orchestra, conducted by Mr. Rui-Shi Zhuo. The BC Chinese Orchestra is the largest traditional music ensemble in Canada, operated by the BC Chinese Music Association, a Chinese music association with over 16 years history in North America.SOUTHWEST ECHOES, a fundraising concert for The Kidney Foundation of Canada, BC Branch, celebrates a very unique view of Chinese culture contemporary Chinese orchestral music by a master composer.
