The objective of this Catalyst Grant program is to fund catalyst grants that will generate preliminary data and facilitate research collaborations.
The Kidney Foundation of Canada is a proud partner on the CIHR Catalyst Grant: Environments, Genes and Chronic Disease, designed to generate data and facilitate research collaborations. This Catalyst Grant provides researchers with financial support to synthesize knowledge and develop state-of-the-art approaches to address the contributions of environment-gene to chronic disease and to develop inter-disciplinary collaborations.
This initiative is launched in partnership with the CIHR Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes, the CIHR Institute of Aboriginal People’s Health, the CIHR Instititute of Cancer Research, the CIHR Institute of Genetics, The CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health, the CIHR Institute of Gender and Health, the CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity, the CIHR Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis, the CIHR Institute of Population and Public Health, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada and The Kidney Foundation of Canada.
Funds Available:
- The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $ 1,600,000, enough to fund approximately 16 grants. This amount may increase if additional funding partners participate. The maximum amount per grant is $ 100,000 for up to one year. This funding is non-renewable.
- Of this $ 1,600,000:
- $ 1,300,000 is available to fund applications relevant to the role of environment-gene interactions in chronic diseases.
- $ 300,000 is available to fund applications relevant to the role of environment-gene interactions in diabesity (type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity) in specific populations.

Research Grant focusing on Alport Syndrome - ASF MacQuarie KFOC Alport Syndrome Research Funding Program:

The Alport Syndrome Foundation, Inc. (ASF) and the Kidney Foundation of Canada (KFOC) are pleased to announce the availability of funding for basic science and clinical research on the natural history, biochemical basis, and treatment of Alport Syndrome. There are no geographical limitations of this funding.
The objective of this research funding program is to advance the knowledge of, develop effective treatment protocols for, and discover a cure for Alport Syndrome Foundation ASF and KFOC are seeking proposals for both basic science and clinical research that will enhance understanding of the causes of this genetic disorder to advance the mission of our organizations.
